FilkKaoru Came Home
- to the tune of "Sunny Came Home" by Shawn Colvin
- by Mandisa Washington

Details: This Rurouni Kenshin filk isn't one of my favorites. Interpreting the original song is hard, because of the vague lyrics, but I believe the song describes a woman pushed beyond her limits who burns down her house or town and possibly her abusive spouse as well. I tried to lighten the mood a bit and ended up losing much of the emotion of the original. In any case, Kaoru is an independent young woman tentatively building a partnership with Kenshin, an emotionally and physically scarred ex-assassin. Here I made up a seductive shopping spree for Kaoru, but that's so far out of character that the tension and frustration become almost pathetic. Check out "The Stone: Scenes from the life of a wanderer" for an RK filk that's better and features Kenshin himself. | More Story Info | Original Song Lyrics

Kaoru came home to the Kamiya compound
She sat down on her futon
She took out a dress and a pair of shoes
Kaoru came home with a mission...

(Chorus)
She says days go by, I watch them fly
Like petals on a flower
I close my eyes and try to hide
the tears that line my bower

Kaoru came home with a set of jewels
She daubed on a bit of fragrance
It's time for a change in tactics she said
Kaoru came home with a vengeance

(Chorus)
She says days go by, I watch them fly
Like petals on a flower
I close my eyes and try to hide
the tears that line my bower

Wear some combs and put on powder
Keep your calm but maintain power
Hold his hands, look into his eyes
True love wins, if a woman tries

Days go by, I watch them fly
Like petals on a flower
I close my eyes and try to hide
the tears that line my bower

End the cries and do what's right
Before it's all too late
Dreams of being Kenshin's mate
All come true tonight

Kaoru came home...
{Repeat to fade}
