FilkKourin
- to the tune of "Lola" by The Kinks
- by Mandisa Washington

Details: Another Fushigi Yuugi filk, I wrote this in defiance of the popular Nuriko-Hotohori match-up. The original song is about a young man's first sexual encounter with a "woman" in Soho (near New York City's Greenwich Village, traditional refuge of many warm-hearted beatniks and homosexuals). However, in this version, the inexperienced, wide-eyed boy is Tasuki the bandit king, and the powerfully alluring woman he meets is Nuriko, a cross-dressing bisexual who also goes by the feminine name Lady Kourin. | More Story Info | Original Song Lyrics

[This song chants, like a musical see-saw]

I met her at the palace in Konan-town
Where we rob merchants and Koji and me drink our sake
Ess-aye-kay-ee Sake
She walked up to me and she played with my fan
I asked her her name and in a deep blue voice she said, "Kourin"
Kay-oh-ree-en Kourin, ku ku ku ku Kourin

Well, I'm not the world's most sensitive guy [that's Chichiri]
But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
Oh my Kourin, ku ku ku ku Kourin
Well, I might be dumb but I can't understand
Why she talked like a woman and fought like a man
Oh my Kourin, ku ku ku ku Kourin, ku ku ku ku Kourin

Well, we drank sake and fought all night
Under Suzaku's bright starlight
She picked me up and slammed me with her knee
She said, mountain boy come fight Seiryuu with me

Well, I'm not the world's most heroic guy [that's Tamahome]
But when she poked at my eyes
Well, I almost died for my Kourin
Ku ku ku ku Kourin, ku ku ku ku Kourin
Kourin, ku ku ku ku Kourin, ku ku ku ku Kourin

{Refrain}

(Halting)
I called to Koji, I pulled out my fan
I Lekka Shinen'd, I got down on my knees
Then I looked at her and she at me ...

(Slow)
Well that's the way that I want it to stay
I always want it to be that way for my Kourin
Ku ku ku ku Kourin
Girls will be boys, and boys will be girls [have you met Tomo?]
Gender gets all mixed up in our book world
Except for Kourin, ku ku ku ku Kourin

Well I left home just a week before
And I'd never fought or kissed a woman before [ew, who'd want to?]
But Kourin smiled and grabbed me by the hair
She said, fang-boy, I'm gonna make you a man

(Loud & Rough)
Well I'm not the world's biggest bishonen [that's Hotohori]
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
And so is Kourin, ku ku ku ku Kourin, ku ku ku ku Kourin

Kourin, ku ku ku ku Kourin, ku ku ku ku Kourin
{Repeat to fade}
