Welcome to Mandisa's Catch-all Guestbook!

Now we're interactive! Are the pages too bright and pastel? Are you gripped with the desire to flame or praise my weird ramblings? Any suggestions about additions you'd like to see? Honestly, I'd like to know who (or what?!) is wandering through this dusty nook of the web. Let me know what you think of the place.

Spammers have ruined the internet - I'd like to redo the site and bring it into the modern age *grin*, which will allow for new updates and hopefully a comment system that filters out bots and their ilk better. Until that time, here are the past comments from real fans such as yourself. Enjoy! (4/19/2011)

Love the site^^!! It's really qute!! And I looooove Ceres, Fushigi ugi and Alice 19th!! I looket at the first, and because i love Ceres and F.U., I thought I might try another Yuu Watase-manga. But then I saw the picture of the fourth volume, with Frey on, and I thougt ;-Well, if Ceres and F.U. are THAT good, then it might not hurt to buy four of this "Alice"? Besides there are only seven of them so...
My frend that I was with thaught I was creazy, but when she too had read them se almoust begged me to buy the others... So, here I am, totally in love whit this manga, and Frey ;D. I hate Alice because she's like "Yuck!!" when he tries to kiss her. I understan that she's in love whit Kyo, but she thinks he likes Mayura, so whats the problem? Besides, Frey is WAY hotter and funnier then Kyo!!
Anyway, thanks for this amaizing site!! ^^
P.S....is Alice supposed to be 15?! (...) she should REALLY do something about her hair!!

I greatly enjoyed your comments on Gerald Tarrant. He is a favorite of mine. I'm wondering if you've read the Time Master Trilogy by Louise Cooper? It is out of print and difficult to find but the main character, Tarod, is the paragon of an anti-hero. There is also the Light & Shadow series by Janny Wurts. You can take your pick there as to who is the anti-hero as both of the opposing main characters are acting in direct conflict with what would be expected of them given their position and history. I'll be happy to go into more detail via email if you wish. Thanks again.

It pleases me IMMENSELY to find an anti-hero site. They are always my favorite characters, and I find myself buying books based on what kind of antiheroes I expect them to have. Antiheroes are my drug of choice. Lol, I'm aware of how odd I may sound, but in any case, I'm glad I ran across your site.

Hello,
I was wondering if you are interested in translating Hana Yori Dango the Japanese Drama to English which will begin airing on Oct 21., we will have all the video files(.avi) and the timed subtitles, so all we need is for you to translate from the audio(our current translator is not at the level of Japanese to do a good translation). Also, most of the Japanese scripts will be available as well for anything you couldn't catch while hearing it. We have a HUGE following and this drama is the most anticipated one of this season(anticipating a few thousand who will be dependent on subs). Please respond ASAP.
Thanks, tianj
BTW, Our group is www.d-addicts.com

[Note fr. Mandisa - Wow, what an invite. But my Japanese language skills are rusty at best, and I was never good enough to do spoken dialogue translations. Good luck with the project though, all Hanadan fans are likely eagerly awaiting the new series.] tianj <tianj8 (at) gmail.com>

I visited your "gallery of anti-heroes" and I must say I found your analysis on every one of the characters insightful and very well-written! Perhaps if you ever have the time, you could add another anime character to your gallery - Muraki Kazutaka from Descendants of Darkness. He's an interesting villain and even though his story and motives are not consistent, probably because his creator didn't plan in advance. I have bookmarked your site and will check back often!

I feel very much like a novice when compared to the individual that wrote before me, but I just wanted to say that I also enjoyed your webpage! Yuu Watase is my favorite manga artist, and it makes me want to jump for joy when I learn of other fans. I haven't looked around much (sorry), so I don't know if you have made any other websites devoted to her work. However, your writing skills (as pointed out before) are splendid, and I'd like it if you would make more (for Ceres, Fushigi Yuugi, Absolute Boyfriend, etc.). If you ever get the chance, I'd love to visit them. Again, thank you very much!

I love your analysis of anime villains and anti-heroes! Fantast work, really. Complex characters make for the best shows as everyone is at least subconsciously aware, but only a few smart cookies like yourself have the tenacity to unpack their development and really spell it out. I enjoy analysis myself and I really enjoyed reading yours! It's not often that I find such quality writing. It's clear that you've put some effort in the turn of your phrases; I wouldn't call them rambling ^_~. Excellent work! I'm really glad I stuck around a bit after wandering in. Thanks!

I regretfully have to disagree with your analysis of the character of Zechs, from Gundam Wing. You do him a disservice, tying him so closely to Char. There are a lot of similarites, yes, but the two are not identical. I think the thing that was most flagrantly incorrect was your statement that Char/Zechs knew nothing about self-sacrifice. Sorry, but that's the entire ending of GW: Zechs, finally sees things clearly and volunteers to take out the core of an earth-threatening space station. This will almost certainly cause his death, but he chooses to do it, sending the "hero" out away from the blast. Aside from that, I have to say you've done amazing work on this site. Thanks for having it available! ^_^

one of the features that i really enjoyed was the basic fact that you have the best anti-hero descriptions and all of your history is very accurate for every character. my own favor going to spike spiegel of course. but i had an idea as i was venturing forthwith in your site when i hit a possibility, add on the antiheroes from games, comics, literally, everything that's drawn. cause in games look at the possibilities, youve got the squaresoft games, the nintentdo games (not much yet 4 the box) and the way i see it, take it a step further...
[Note fr. Mandisa - I've been totally neglecting the Antiheroes gallery lately. Just spending too much time reading manga and watching anime, I guess *grin*. The world of comics and video games is certainly rife with antiheroes, but honestly, my knowledge of those two media isn't as strong, and I don't want to do a crappy job of it. But as always, I encourage you to write your own gallery entry, and I'll be happy to post a link to it with appropriate credit.]

I've seen some pretty random things in my life, but never would I have thought of combining cross-stitching and anime. HOW COOL!! (Not to mention the fact that the pictures of your work look fabulous...) So basically I decided today that instead of studying for my midterms, I would plan out a new project, including the Suzaku seishi. If you could somehow get me your patterns for the four gods, or even just Suzaku, that would be awesome. Keep up the great work! Thanks
[Note fr. Mandisa - Thanks for the compliments :) The Four Gods are mostly done, so the patterns should go up soon. I think I'll probably give them their own page though, separate from the seishi. There are some other anime cross-stitchers out there though, some of which are linked to on my Alison <morgaine528 (at) aol.com>

I really like the Yu Watase related patterns, and I was wondering if you've done the kanji designs for Mitsukake and Chiriko as I'm stitching a sampler/design with the Suzaku seishi kanji. If you've done them, could I possible have the files? And would it be possible to have the kanji for the Four Gods too? I love your patterns, and I really want to finish the thing I've been stitching but need the other two kanji. Thanks a lot! -Amy
[Note fr. Mandisa - All the Suzaku seishi are posted now, plus the blond twins from the Seiryuu side, so that's all set. I'm still working on a page for the Four Gods, so keep an eye out.]

I liked/didn't like ...your gallery of anti-heroes. I turned up work when searching in general for "Gerald Tarrant." I appreciated your take on him--well written and thought provoking. Can't resist suggesting a nomination--Marc Remillard of Julian May's works. He is truly the main character of a series of 8 books, though you don't even meet him until the third book. One of her descriptions of him runs something like "something in his eyes depicted the course of the failed idealist." (That's not exactly right--and it may be truly off the mark--I just can't get my hands on the page where the quote appears.)Incidentally, in this same series, another anti-hero is Aiken Drum, who figures prominently in the first 3 books and who is described by a psychologically sophisticated character as representing the archtype of the Trickster. If I may be so bold, if you liked Tarrant, I think you'll like Remillard and Aiken Drum. If I am wrong, please forgive. Thanks for your contribution!
[Note fr. Mandisa - A school chum also recommended Julian May, for similar reasons, but I haven't added the author's works to my pile yet. To the library! *snark*]

The Alice 19th site is great! So far I've only read the first two volumes, but with the rest on the way from Viz soon, shall catch up on the series. The information on the Runes is very helpful. It gives me a quick reference to look at what's being cast and what it represents when the characters don't mention it right away. So thank you for that!
[Note fr. Mandisa - I'm waiting for Viz to get to at least vol. 4 or 5 before putting up the last 2 volumes' worth of Runes. And the glitches on the main page ought to be gone now. So enjoy!]

I loved the site, all your descriptions were accurate and well written. I enjoyed it all very much. I was especially surprised by your inclusion of Gerald Tarrant. I am in the middle of that series and I was surprised that he was included because I had never heard of the author or the books before this month. (I'm also a huge Kenshin and Bebop fan.) If you wouldn't mind contacting me at my email I'd love to talk to you about the characters and series you have covered and plan to cover. Anyway keep up the great work.
[Note fr. Mandisa - A friend turned me on to Friedman's books because of Gerald Tarrant. "Sacrifice is the key to power." You can't get closer than that to a mantra for the anti-hero, I think.]

I have a suggestion for your gallery of antiheros. Squall Leonhart from the video game Final Fantasy VIII is perfect. He's a loner, doesn't care for people, yet dedicated to the things he does do and still has a heart in the end. And by the way, I just love your antihero gallery. They're always the best characters (and the hottest ^___^ especially Spike Spiegel, Gerald Tarrant, and Nicholas D. Wolfwood).
[Note fr. Mandisa - Various FF folks have been suggested, but I don't play video games, so I'm kind of at a loss there. Post your own though, and I'll be happy to link to it with appropriate credit.]
